CULEBRA ISLAND

CulebraIslandRealty@att.net

Hola and thank you for your interest in Culebra and our rental properties. Culebra is known to those who cherish it as "the Spanish Virgin Island." It is a tiny unspoiled treasure of the Caribbean. Officially, Culebra is part of Puerto Rico so visitors are within a commonwealth of the United States. Passports are unnecessary and the currency is U.S. dollars. There are approximately 2,300 residents and most will return a smile or an hola. The official language is Spanish though a majority of the people speak English. Culebra caters to eco-tourism providing turtle watching, sailing, snorkeling, diving, surfing, flats and off shore fishing, sea kayaking, bird watching, and hiking. You won't find any major hotels, casinos, fast- food chains or night clubs. What you will find are some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. The coral formations around the pristine shoreline and the surrounding Cays make up an underwater forest of uncompromising beauty and adventure. Culebra is largely undeveloped with approximately one third of its 7,000 acres designated as wildlife reserves. Please read the "Zoning Section" of this web site for an understanding of how and why Culebra is different from most Caribbean Islands and therefore very special. Culebra is accessible from San Juan International Airport and the Isla Grande Airport via Flamenco Airlines 787-724-1818 and VAL 787-741-8331. Isla Grande Airport is a 20 minute cab ride from the International Airport but the flights are more affordable. Affordable and reliable air charters- Matt Mulvey with Culebra Air- 787-427-4808 and Air American
Caribbean- 787-460-7558.
An alternate method of travel is to take the ferry out of Fajardo. There have been recent improved scheduling changes to the schedule call us for more information on this on this option.

Culebra Island Realty is owned and operated by Jim Galasso a retired law enforcement officer from Long Island , New York. Jim is a licensed real estate broker and Cheryl is a licensed sales person in Puerto Rico. He has lived on Culebra for fourteen years with his family. Eleven years ago, Jim and his wife Cheryl, the office manager, started a property management business that specializes in vacation rentals of some of Culebra's finest privately owned homes. On Culebra between guest houses and small hotels there are only about 240 rentable rooms. This limits the accessibility to Culebra. So Culebra Island Realty offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy the island from a different perspective and with more privacy and comfort. We have developed an attractive list of privately owned rental properties. In the "Vacation Rental Information" section of this web site there is more information about Culebra and a list of these homes for your examination. The eastern half of Culebra has approx. 55 homes. Most of this area is zoned five or twenty -five acres per house. The homes on the eastern side of Culebra will offer you very secluded and nicely appointed homes for your Culebra experience and most are a short distance to the magnificent Zoni Beach. For those of you reading old guide books , the road to the eastern end of Culebra has been fully paved and is in excellent condition. All our homes have fully equipped kitchens. All linen and towels are provided. Our service includes free airport or ferry pick- up. We also arrange jeep rentals for out guests as a courtesy -without commission charges. If you are interested in any of our properties, please contact us and we will be glad to answer your questions. Our reservation policy requires a 50% deposit by personal check or money order which confirms your reservation. Your deposit is non- refundable unless we are able to rebook your rental dates minus a twenty-five dollar service charge. The 50% balance is due upon check in and is payable in either cash, traveler's checks, or money order. At check-in a security deposit is required to cover loss, breakage, or the need for excessive cleaning. The amount of the security deposit varies between $150- $400 depending upon the house. The security deposit is refunded via mail. Also due at check in is a 7% tax charged by Puerto Rico on all short term vacation rentals. This tax became effective April 1, 2004.
